Although using a web browser to access my email is convenient, I still keep a copy thunderbird Portable running as backup. I’d be lost without it if there were every any problems with my email account- for example, if it was unavailable or had actually lost emails. Thunderbird lets your download the emails without effect how they appear on your web mail interface, and the portable version (snipac.com/9591) lets your keep the entire backup in one folder. Always choose the IMAP serer rather than POP3 when creating your account, because IMAP ensures your messages stay on the server. Once the account is set up, click the top-right button with three horizontal lines, move the mouse over Options arrow and they click Account Settings. Click Synchronization
& Storage in the left-hand column and make sure the ‘keep messages for this account on this computer’ option is selected. Click the Advanced button to include or exclude specific folders- you won’t want to back up a spam folder, for example. Make sure that you have selected both the Synchronies all messages locally regardless of age’ and ‘don’t delete any messages’ options. Click OK to save the changes. For extra security I keep Thunderbird Portable in a folder in Drop box to make sure that the backup is safe even if I have unforeseen Problem in my computer
